Choose the right bike
That means choosing a bike that’s not only is the right size, but one that is designed to meet your cycling needs.
For example, if you are planning to use your bike to travel to and from school or work you will need something different than if you are planning to cycle off road or for sport.
There are lots of different types of bike and it's improtant to chose the right one for you. Click here to download a leaflet about the different types of bike available for men, and click here for a leaflet about bikes for women.

If you’re still unsure, talk to the sales assistants in your local bike shop and ask them which bike they would recommend for your needs. They will also be able to advise you on the size of bike you need, particularly when buying for a child.
Work out the budget you are able to spend and buy the best you can get for that money – it will be well worth the investment.
Make sure any bike you buy is fitted with lights, reflectors and a bell. Another essential is a good lock so you can park your bike securely.
Ideally your bike should also be fitted with an identity chip, in case it is ever stolen.
