Cycling is carbon neutral
Cycling is a fast and efficient way of travelling without costing the earth.
Quicker than walking, it is also carbon neutral so you don’t need to worry about the impact your daily journeys are having on the environment.
And, according to Sustrans, 2kg of carbon is saved for every short journey that is made using a bike instead of a car.

“I cycle to work along the Wivenhoe Trail, through the Riverside Estate, below Castle Park and then on to Colchester Institute. I am probably off-road 90 per cent of the time which is good for me as I am a very timid cyclist who doesn’t like to go very fast. “If everyone just used a bike for small journeys it would all add up to a lot less traffic congestion which is all good for the environment. “On a beautiful, sunny day, cycling on the Wivenhoe Trail is very relaxing and pleasant and is the ideal way of unwinding after a heavy day and getting rid of tension. I wouldn’t get this feeling if I was stuck in traffic in a car. “People should start thinking about making short trips by bike instead of using the car. They need to consider their regular journeys and ask themselves ‘Could I get there just as quickly by bike?’” |

“I am a car driver but I try to reduce the number of times I use the car because of my worries about pollution and the environment.
