Did you know, the average cost of maintaining a car each year is £273 compared to just £75 for a bike? *

If you’re feeling the effects of the credit crunch and looking to tighten your belt, cycling is a really affordable option.

With an average household in the UK spending one in every six pounds on travel, think how much you’ll save if you travel by bike.

Case study
Neil Thomas, 51, lives in St John’s.

Neil Thomas with his bike“Cycling for me is all about a cheap, convenient way of getting from A to B. I don’t do it for fitness - I am quite a sedentary cyclist – but, I suppose, there is a certain amount of effort involved as I have to cycle up Broadlands Way on the way home.

“The enjoyment I get out of cycling is not having to fork out car parking fees. Going to work by bike has saved me a lot of money over the years. It would cost me at least £20 a week to park and that adds up to quite a lot of money over a year.”
