Further Information

The 28 running of the classic 84 mile road race will be held on the Abberton Reservoir circuit south of Colchester, with a full field of 80 riders assembling at the race HQ Alderman Blaxill school.

Thanks to sponsorship from Cycle Colchester the prize list has been increased and an escort of five motor cyclists will give the race a smooth passage.

The field is made up of mainly Elite and First category riders from across the country including the national road race champion Kristian House riding with 5 of his Rapha Condor/Sharp team mates.
Other top national teams include Cyclepremier/Metaltek, Team Corley Cycles and Wilier/bimaggys.com; while local interests include the Orbea-For Goodness Shakes team headed by twice previous winner Andy Lyons.
Top level junior team Glendene CC have 5 riders while 18 year old Dominic Schils from Colchester returns from racing in Belgium to compete in his local event.
Last year the Wilier team took the race by the scruff of the neck and attacked constantly only to be deprived of the win in the final sprint by Essex rider James Millard.  James is riding once more in the Cyclepremier team along with Jason White from Thundersley.
With dry weather forecast for the coming week we are relying upon the Highways Dept to do their best with the many potholes on the circuit.  We just hope for the usual chilly but dry and sunny race day.  The race should finish outside Layer Water Treatment Works about 1.40pm.  Refreshments and car parking will be available.
